Altın Günü: A Farewell for Tea Sugar Dream

Altın Günü marks the conclusion of the Tea Sugar Dream project initiated by İpek Çınar. The aim of the project was to explore the concept of joy with first-generation women* from Turkey who migrated to Berlin in the 1960s and 1970s either as guest workers or as family members of guest workers. In collaboration with the türkischer Frauenverein Berlin (Turkish Women’s Association Berlin), Çınar organised collective gatherings and conducted four workshops over a period of six months.
Based on the premise that happiness and unhappiness are unequally distributed among different groups and communities, the project aimed to promote intergenerational conversations using joy as a catalyst. Over the course of six months, various activities such as picnics, board games, dance and singing workshops, and a collective collage workshop were held to facilitate the sharing of migration stories of female migrants from Turkey.
During this closing event, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Turkish gün dishes and karaoke, providing a final opportunity to come together and celebrate in joy.

Altın Günü: Abschied vom Tea Sugar Dream

Altın Günü markiert den Abschluss des von İpek Çınar initiierten Projekts Tea Sugar Dream. Ziel des Projekts war es, den Begriff der Freude mit Frauen* der ersten Generation aus der Türkei zu erforschen, die in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren entweder als Gastarbeiter*in oder als Familienangehörige von Gastarbeiter*inen nach Berlin migrierten. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem türkischen Frauenverein Berlin organisierte Çınar kollektive Versammlungen und führte vier Workshops über einen Zeitraum von sechs Monaten durch.
Ausgehend von der Prämisse, dass Glück und Unglück zwischen verschiedenen Gruppen und Gemeinschaften ungleich verteilt sind, zielte das Projekt darauf ab, Gespräche zwischen den Generationen zu fördern und dabei Freude als Katalysator zu nutzen. Im Laufe der sechs Monate wurden verschiedene Aktivitäten wie Picknicks, Brettspiele, Tanz- und Gesangsworkshops und ein kollektiver Collage-Workshop veranstaltet, um den Austausch von Migrationsgeschichten von Migrantinnen aus der Türkei zu erleichtern.
Bei der Abschlussveranstaltung haben die Teilnehmer*innen die Möglichkeit, traditionelle türkische Gün-Gerichte und Karaoke zu genießen – eine letzte Gelegenheit, um zusammenzukommen und gemeinsam zu feiern.
Ipek Çinar (she/her) completed her studies in Political Sciences at METU in 2018 and began her graduate studies in the Art in Context MA program at UdK Berlin in 2020.
Working predominantly with the photographic medium since 2011, Çınar tells stories that seek to convey an idiosyncratic language by blending photography with writing and research. In addition to her photographic production, she contributes essays, interviews and series of articles to various publications, and acts as a content advisor, particularly on photography. Çınar enjoys the intersection of art and politics, and uses play, joy and unexpected encounters as a means of expression in her socially engaged art projects. In addition to her artistic production, she also works in the field of anti-discrimination and social justice.
