61 metre Kahya Bey Sokağı
One of the important streets of Tarlabası, İstanbul is Omer Hayyam street, and Kahya Bey street is an long, narrow road that crosses it. The workshops that form that basis of the exhibition were done with children and the teenagers living in the first 61 meters of this street.
The artists shot a participatory documentary film there with merchants, inhabitants, and the young people themselves. The aim of the artists is to show a snapshot of the lives, expectations, challenges in this diverse and harmonious neighborhood. Together with the street’s young people, they used a variety of media to visually and verbally document this rapidly changing neighborhood.
The project was shown at Apartment Project, Berlin. It was also showcased as part of the conference “We Decide How We Reside” held as a part of the Wohnungsfrage initiative at Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
