The Anxious Borders project is a research and art initiative that gives voice to populations in “declining”, neglected urban areas in Mersin and Berlin.
It fosters scholarly and creative collaboration between the two cities, and brings attention the interdependence of Turkey and the EU in the 21st century. It comprises social science research workshops, artistic production of research results, exhibitions, and large-scale public art installations whose aim is to foster dialogue about pressing questions for local communities. Anxious Borders combines ethical, engaged research with aesthetic practice. It brings a new perspective to the phenomenon of urban transformation, looking from/to the future to/from present.
