The performances by Nour Sokhon and Awe Kid investigate this months’ «Chromatic Wednesdays» theme «Divergence». With her performance «And who are we now?», Nour attempts to imagine a future for her home country Lebanon, worn-out by recent economic and political developments. They have triggered new waves of emigration of Lebanese citizens, separating families and friends from each other. Nour integrates these experiences and questions about an unforeseeable future into her sound compositions.

 

Awe Kid’s «Body Logic Tour» performance explores ideas of trans-humanism, evolution and digital immortality through an innovative kinetic screen installation driven by the artist  Flashbacker. In this audio-visual collaboration between Awe Kid and Flashbacker, organic, breathing textures evolve, which are punctuated by moments of digital unrealness and create dream-like experiences.

 

This edition of «Chromatic Wednesdays» is a collaboration with the «HIVE INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM DAYS BERLIN». The film festival encourages diversity and provides a platform for the exchange of stories and ideas between cineasts and filmmakers. «Chromatic Wednesdays», a bi-weekly event series that aims to bring together creative thinkers from diverse backgrounds, contributes to its program with performances by Nour Sokhon and Awe Kid. They are shown on 10 and 11 September 2022, at 22.00 each night at Am Flutgraben 3 in Berlin-Kreuzberg and can also be followed online on Youtube (link). 

 

Nour Sokhon is a Lebanese artist based between Beirut and Berlin. Her creative practice focuses on exploring different methods of artistic research including interview material, in which she incorporates field recordings and recorded material from organized site-specific interventions. She then translates her research into sound/music compositions, performances, interactive installations and moving image works.

 

Awe Kid is an alias of Sine Language Records co-founder Rick Parsons, evolving from years of exploring a variety of different music genres. From his beginning in post-hardcore groups and to a penchant for the ‘90s warp, electronic jazz and more experimental niches, the multi-instrumentalist has now settled on his own unique fusion of breaks, ambient and left-field dance music. He mixes up melodic nostalgia with a forward-thinking sound design using analog and modular hardware, samplers, field recordings and digital techniques.
