Apartment Project is pleased to host Leman S. Darıcıoğlu’s new performance titled There is an ocean between us on 28 July 2020, Tuesday. The 7-hour long performance is the result of a thread of self-directed questions. Darıcıoğlu’s ongoing exploration of the body’s boundaries and its role as a vessel in personal expression responding to predominant social and political paradigms continues by addressing the newly arising definitions for distance, limitation, intimacy, and borders. These notions that are recently restoring their contexts are at the center of the artists’ new work, where she* reconsiders the four windows (‘screens’) of Apartment Project as a single narrative, utilizing only the facade as the project space, keeping the doors

Errant Sound & Apartment Project // : AARC#1 – TORTU
AARC is an experimental artistic solidarity project conceived by Errant Sound and Apartment Project in Berlin. After the racist murders in Hanau, the two groups met to initiate a collaboration between the two project spaces – also as a political statement – by forming the “Artists Against Racism Collaborative (AARC)”.
The short form AARC refers to the word arc — arc as a bridge between artists of different fields and cultural backgrounds. At the same time, the title phonetically evokes the “AARGGH!” interjection, conveying common feelings of despair, fear and exhaustion among communities who are affected by racist attacks and/or exposed to subtle forms of racism. The collectively formulated voice develops individual and/or joint responses to such emotions and names and unveils everyday practices of racism. Through this collaboration, the two venues aim to create a mutual artistic conversation, facilitate a process of collaboration and develop new forms of solidarity.

One of the important streets of Tarlabası, İstanbul is Omer Hayyam street, and Kahya Bey street is an long, narrow road that crosses it. The workshops that form that basis of the exhibition were done with children and the teenagers living in the first 61 meters of this street.
